Boating Info: Boat-in Only. 200 feet of transient dock. The river above Cottonwood Bridge is primarily used by manually powered boats such as driftboats, rafts or canoes (powerboat restrictions apply, see regulations). On the lower section, the John Day Dam pools the lower nine miles of the John Day and is accessible only via the Columbia. Tumwater Falls is impassible to boats, blocking the upper section of the pool. Avoid trespassing on the privately held lands along much of the river.
